Detailed Installation
Attach the standards.
Hold the first standard on the center of stud. Drive a screw through the top hole. Do not over tighten. Place a level against edge of standard to ensure standard is vertical (Photo 1A) and mark or drill remaining screw holes. Place remaining screws and tighten.

Hold the second standard vertically on center of the next stud and lay the level across the top of the two wall standards. (Photo 1B) Align the second standard horizontally level with the mounted wall standard and carefully mark the top screw hole. Mount the standard as previously outlined.

For standards at different vertical heights or on two adjacent walls:

If your design has standards at different vertical heights or is being mounted on two walls in a corner, the vertical alignment of standards can be easily accomplished.

  1. Mount first standard.
  2. Place a bracket precisely where you would like it on the mounted standard.
  3. Place another bracket on the next standard where you want it to line up horizontally with the first bracket.

You can be sure the brackets are appropriately tapped down on the standards if the locking keys slip into place. This is important as it ensures the standards are precisely aligned. If your level is long enough, simply place it on the two brackets and align horizontally. If the distance is too great, lay a shelf on the two brackets.

Find and mark your studs.
Using a stud finder, mark center of studs in wall. Mounting the wall standards in studs will make your installation stronger. If you are unable to attach to studs, use appropriate wall anchors for hollow wall and concrete installation. (WallPerfect recommends the type that have a back-of-the-wall component that opens behind the dry wall, as the support brackets are designed to push against the wall for additional stability.)

Determine spacing and height of wall standards.
When using laminate shelving we recommend approximately 16" (normal stud spacing) between wall standards. For wood or plywood, up to 24". (Physics: The closer the standards, the greater the load bearing ability. Therefore deeper shelves, because of more edge loading force, should be supported at the shorter intervals for desk top installations.)

The height of standards should take into account useful floor space beneath shelves. (Note: The bottom shelf will be approximately 8" above the bottom of the wall standard.)

The wallperfect system fits any length standards you desire. Standards can be made custom length by cutting precisely the length you want. Additional mounting screw holes can be drilled in the cut standard as needed. If you want longer than any available standard, simply install one above the other. The wallperfect covers will completely hide the junction and stability is assured.
